Shockwave Therapy for Injury Recovery
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) uses acoustic waves to break up soft tissue calcifications, enhance collagen synthesis, release growth factors and stimulate the body’s healing process. This non-invasive therapy helps treat conditions such as Achilles tendinopathy, rotator cuff injuries, stress fractures, plantar fasciitis and tennis elbow. ESWT requires no incisions or downtime, and most patients see long-term results after only three sessions lasting about 15 minutes each. The therapy accelerates healing by promoting blood flow and metabolism in tissues that normally heal slowly. It is approved by the FDA and has virtually no side effects.
At New Life Chiropractic, our sports medicine team uses shockwave therapy as part of an integrated approach to injury rehabilitation. We pair it with chiropractic adjustments, Active Release Techniques, rehabilitative muscle feedback and corrective exercises to restore joint motion and reduce pain. Shockwave therapy is not a cure-all; rather, it augments conventional rehabilitation and helps athletes return to play sooner. We tailor energy settings, number of pulses and treatment intervals based on each athlete’s tolerance and specific injury. For example, Achilles tendinopathy may require three sessions at one-week intervals with 2,000 impulses per session. We also educate athletes on proper training load management and recovery strategies to prevent reinjury. Because shockwave therapy is non-invasive, it offers an attractive option when other conservative treatments have failed.
