Active Release Techniques (ART) are a hands-on therapy designed to relieve tension and restore mobility in soft tissues. Over time, repetitive movements or injuries can cause muscles, tendons and fascia to develop adhesions – small areas of scar tissue that restrict motion and irritate surrounding nerves. ART practitioners use precise manual pressure to locate these adhesions while guiding you through specific movements. The combination of pressure and movement helps break down fibrous tissue and release trapped nerves or blood vessels.

Patients often seek ART for conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, shoulder impingement, plantar fasciitis and other overuse injuries. Sessions can reduce pain, improve range of motion and help you return to normal activities sooner. Because ART addresses the underlying adhesion rather than just the symptoms, many people experience lasting improvements.

At New Life Chiropractic, ART sessions are performed by providers trained in this technique. We first assess your movement and identify areas of tightness. During treatment you will be actively involved, moving the affected joint or muscle as your provider applies tension. This allows the tissues to glide properly and reduces discomfort. ART may be combined with adjustments, exercise or other therapies to create a comprehensive treatment plan.
